Are You or Aren't You?

Do You or Someone Close to You Have a Problem?

Self-Tests
It is one of the characteristic of addiction that an addict and/or alcoholic must recognize that he or she has a problem before any progress toward recovery can be made. Self-evaluation can help the process along by enabling an addict to see his/her situation in a more realistic light. If you think you or a person close to you may have a problem — or if you are simply curious to see how an expert might view your drinking and/or drugging — the following tests might interest you.

These tests are designed to be self-administered. The first, known as the CAGE, is a short four questions. The second, a longer example of a self-evaluation, is called the New York Screening Self-Test; the third is a list of twelve, yes-or-no questions, compiled — and used for years — by Alcoholics Anonymous.
