There are many sources of help for people seeking help for addiction to or dependency on alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Some of these organizations listed below can be accessed via the internet; others are simply a local phone call away. Some Twelve Step groups, particularly Alcoholics Anonymous, have many local meetings.

Al-Anon/Alateen

Founded in 1935, Alcoholics Anonymous pioneered the
Twelve Steps to Recovery and remains the largest and most successful self-help organization, with several million active members world wide. The AA preamble begins: "Alcoholics Anonymous is an organization of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with one another that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism
"
Locally the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (see above) can provide you with a booklet listing the A.A. meetings in Delaware and surrounding counties. It can also put you in touch with individual AA members who would be glad to tell you about the organization.

An "addictions outpatient treatment agency serving the needs of all those whose lives have been affected by the abuse of alcohol and drugs," the "Hamden clinic," as it is often called, offers consultation, evaluation, assessment/referral, education, aftercare services, and individual, group and family treatment.
